Civics 101

Elections in America are our opportunity to choose  people to represent us in all levels of government.  These include national, state, county, and city governments.  To find out who our representatives are we need to know which government districts we live in.  Here are the districts we live in:

National

State:  Each state has two U.S. Senators.  All voters in the fifty states vote for the senators in their state.  One third of the Senate is elected  every two years.

Congressional District:  We elect representatives to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC, from our Congressional District every two years.  The boundaries of  Arizona's districts are determined by the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission.

State Government

Legislative District:  Arizona is divided into Legislative Districts from which we elect representatives to the State House, and senators to the State Senate.  Each district has one Senator and two Representatives. The boundaries of the districts are determined by the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission .

County Government

Supervisor District:  Each county in Arizona is divided into Supervisor Districts that elect their own Supervisor to the County Board of Supervisors. Other elective offices in the county are County Attorney, Sheriff, County Treasurer, County School Superintendent, County Assessor, Recorder, and Superior Court Judges.

School District:  School districts are county entities having  established boundaries that include residents of the areas they serve.  Those residents elect their representatives to the School Boards.

Fire District:  Fire districts are county entities having established boundaries that include residents of the areas they serve.   Those residents  elect representatives to govern their fire districts.

City Government

Administrative structure, election procedures, and contact information are available at your city's website:

         Bullhead City

         Kingman

        Lake Havasu City
